Julie A. Miller — Advanced Practicing Podiatrist
A career built one careful step at a time.
Writing My Footprint in Podiatry started out as a reflective process. Reflecting on a long career – people I’ve had the good fortune of knowing and working with, places I’ve worked, patients who have sat in clinic chairs facing me, challenges I’ve met, lessons I’ve learned, my approach to patient care, and wisdom I have accumulated that others may learn from.

I particularly enjoyed the way you have woven clinical insights throughout the book. They add authenticity and depth without detracting from the personal narrative, and they offer readers a genuine appreciation of the skill, knowledge, and compassion involved in podiatry. I have known Julie Miller 20 plus years it all started in 2004 when I had a workplace accident and my left foot was crushed, from that all 5 toes were amputated. I recall laying in my hospital bed, when Julie - the Hospital's Accredited Podiatrist - asked if she could examine my foot to see the extent of my foot injury after the accident. Julie explained what her position was at the hospital. Her bedside manner and empathy towards me after what had occurred made me feel relaxed which made me feel confident letting Julie examine my foot. From that day on Julie became my treating Podiatrist from then on we had a great patient-podiatrist relationship. After I moved to regional Victoria, I continued to travel to South Caulfield to see Julie on a regular basis, as I trusted her with my foot.
I have followed Julie's career since she retired from private practice and I admired her for how she made herself available to treat the people in Indigenous and remote communities. Whenever there are disadvantaged groups of people Julie is always at the forefront offering her expert Podiatry skills to those who need them most.
